Since many years back, I’ve always sensed that the world’s shift towards a digital future can’t be completed without the big players of the local offline scene. When you have a product or an idea for a start-up, it is usually a journey of two routes. The 1st route, to disrupt existing businesses and usher in an entire new industry to revolutionize that platform, activities that many aspiring young start-up founders attempt to do. The 2nd route, which surprisingly has been the route I have taken since forming Tinka with Eugene since day 1 , is to establish a connection with local offline businesses by implementing the wonders of digital products. This in my opinion not only garner me a lot of new found companions to my cause, but also speeds up the process of moving towards the next level via digital transformation.
Sharing Session on Digital Transformation with DNA at What’s Next Conference
For the entirety of 2017 and half of 2018, my team has been constantly running tons of projects for many Fortune 500 Companies like Microsoft, Hewlett Packard (HP), Trend Micro, Seagate… the list goes on. However so, it has been a long standing desire of mine to actually create strategies and technologies that can impact companies for our local Malaysian scene instead. “To grow homegrown companies, is to grow Malaysia.” That was an innate desire I always had, but one that I did not know how to fulfil. Everyday was a grind of never ending tasks to fulfil jobs from clients.
“Sometimes in life you just have to meet that one person that will change your path of destiny”
It was then James, the man who picked me & my team up when we were still tiny little Tinka, had this new push again for us to embark on a newer journey, a journey of digital evolution. With a new shared vision across all parties, me & my team agreed to take on the role of implementing all kinds of digital solutions that will greatly spearhead the journey of ThunderMatch Technologies Sdn Bhd, a 21 year old retail company with almost 100 outlets across Malaysia, towards the next level of 500 Million Ringgit in revenue & beyond.

Upon starting, I have been involved in countless of discussions & meetings on strategies that can solve various problems within the organization. However, implementing something as common as an E-Commerce website would have it’s fair share of problems, especially when you are doing it for a company that generates 400-500 Million ringgit in revenue per year. A slew of unexpected hiccups will surely appear along the way. Suddenly building a website, is not just building a website anymore.
A recent awesome Quora read from James Altucher states that
“Some people are great at building a one million dollar business. But at ten million in revenues, there are a different set of problems. And at $100,000,000 there is a greater set of problems.”

This particular quote is extremely true to the feelings I felt. When you are not in it, you don’t understand it, as your vision towards the whole picture is limited. But when it falls onto you, get ready to face challenges never thought possible through every excruciating step.
So how do you, a team of young not so well seasoned individuals, work on something as bizarre as a 9 Zero plan? The answer is outright simple. You do it SLOWWWLY, with PATIENCE, and UNDERSTANDING. There is no other way around it! A full understanding of each processes that can be improved will need to be the first priority, and this activity alone can take MONTHS due to the vast amount of activities that happens throughout the whole organization in a day.
This in general would take the topic of BI (Business Intelligence) into consideration. The more you understand about the business, the better you can keep finding ways to implement newer strategies for it. Even the best software or system in the world can’t provide answers if it first do not know the problems it is supposed to solve.
It is after processes like these that we can finally head out to construct strategies based on trends and any predictive patterns that the economy will face soon. Hence the effort of putting in 200% into E-Commerce and also system solutions that can streamline & smoothen out tasks are one of the firsts which we aim to solve.
